Blog Design Tips

There are so many blogs on the Internet, and competition to make yours stand out among the web site crowd is fierce. You want a blog to be visually appealing and interesting, so be sure to use these easy, helpful tips to help your blog design be the best it can be.

1. State Your Purpose

When someone visits your blog, make sure your purpose is crystal clear. You can do this with what's called a "blog banner," which is your blog's title and explains what you are there to accomplish.

2. Keep Things Simple

There are a ton on design options you can incorporate into a blog - everything from widgets to fonts to eye-catching colors - that sometimes it's easy to over-decorate your design. To avoid this, keep things simple and uncluttered. A clean-looking page is much more attractive and east to navigate than a busy one.

3. Use Whitespace

The definition of whitespace comes from graphic designers using spacing between stories/text/items on a web page. Whitespace adds a certain polish to a blog, so make sure you space out the design elements you've added to your page.

4. Use Compatible Colors

Stay away from too many loud, clashing hues of your blog - pick a color scheme that is visually pleasing. Too many bright colors have been shown to turn readers away from a page.

5. Place Important Information On Top

Put your key elements "above the fold," which is the top half of your blog, so readers can see it as soon as they go onto your page. This can include your email address, subscription info and links.

6. Design A Custom Banner

Creating a customized banner for your blog is a great way to promote your blog, brand or business.

7. Check Your Font Size

Text that is either too small or too large can be displeasing to the eye, so make sure that your copy size is an appropriate one that makes it easy to read.

8. Add Photos

Everyone likes pictures, so add images to your blog whenever possible. Reading is more entertaining when accompanied by pleasing photos, so be sure to engage your readers withpictures.

9. Do A Usability Check

Ask your friends or family to log onto your blog and make sure everything is running smoothly - re: the page loads correctly, the design and graphics show up, etc. You can also ask them to provide their feedback about their likes and dislikes of your page.

10. Check Blog In Different Internet Browsers

Each browser has a unique oddity that makes blogs show up differently, so it's very important that you check your blog on a variety of browsers to ensure that it's showing up the way it's designed to look.
